Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner
Roger Hirst, Police, Fire, and Crime Commissioner of Essex (PFCC) plays a crucial role as the voice of the people, ensuring that their concerns and needs are represented effectively. Along with the Deputy PFCC, Jane Gardner, Roger takes on the responsibility of closely monitoring and scrutinising the performance of Essex Police and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, guaranteeing the delivery of an efficient and effective service.
The EALC are committed to supporting the work of the PFCC, Essex Police and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. We strive to be the important link between our membership and regularly engage with organisations whose aim is to enhance the lives of Essex Residents. Our Chair, Cllr Peter Davey is a member of the Rural Crime Forum, Safer Essex, and with our CEO are active members of the Essex Rural Partnership with our Vice-Chair Cllr John Gili-Ross the Chair of the Essex Police Crime Panel. Local matters are raised within these forums which discuss and shape decision making to ensure that parish and town councils are fully informed of local policing initiatives such as briefings around unauthorized encampments, changes in legislation. Up to date information is shared in the EALC Police, Fire and Crime e-Bulletin each week.

Police and Crime Plan 2024-2028

Essex Police, Fire and Crime Panel
The Essex Police and Crime Panel was established under the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011. The Panel became known as the Essex Police, Fire and Crime Panel in 2017.
The Panel examines the actions and decisions of the Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner. It plays a vital role in holding the Commissioner to account.

PFCC Fire and rescue plan 2024-2028
The Fire and Rescue Plan sets out the priorities for fire and rescue services in Essex and a series of strong, tangible commitments to how Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) will help keep our communities safe.
The plan brings together the Service, partners and the public to build safe and secure communities and offer efficient and effective prevention, protection and response activity
The activities in this plan set out a clear direction for development of the Service and how, by working closer together with other emergency services and wider partners, ECFRS can deliver a better service while being closer to the communities we serve.
PFCC Public Meetings
The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner is committed to engaging with the public of Essex around policing, crime, fire and rescue services. These meetings provide members of the public with the chance to ask questions about what is happening in their area.
