Essex County Council (ECC) recognises the importance of collaborative efforts to address the environmental and climate challenges we face. This commitment to collective action is reflected in ECC's updated Climate Action Plan. The plan takes stock of the progress made thus far and acknowledges the significant changes that have taken place at regional, national, and international levels. It recognises the impact of these changes on the communities, residents, and businesses across Essex.
The Climate Action Plan is a response to the recommendations put forth by the Essex Climate Action Commission (the Commission) in their report, "Net Zero: Making Essex Carbon Neutral." These recommendations, fully endorsed by ECC in November 2021, serve as the foundation for ECC's efforts to tackle climate change, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and build a climate-resilient county.

This advice pack is a collection of key advice, tips and information to help us all cut our
carbon, to reduce our impact on the planet and help us and the next generation have a
better future.
The Essex Climate Action Commission has advised the county of Essex on the key steps to
get to net-zero emissions by 2050, in its report: Net Zero, Making Essex Carbon Neutral.
One of its key recommendations is to signpost Essex residents to good advice and help in
the transition to a lower carbon lifestyle.

and information to help your school cut your carbon,
to reduce your impact on the environment and to
help us improve long-term sustainability across
Essex. Reducing your school’s impact on the climate
and environment is not as challenging as it may seem. There are many practical and cost-effective (often free!) changes you can make to help reduce your carbon emissions and to ensure your school is operating sustainably.
Consumers are increasingly conscious of the environment when deciding where to
shop and the risks of climate change are beginning to shape how businesses will work
in the future.
This advice pack has been specifically developed to help small and medium-sized
businesses across Essex access the most relevant information in relation to climate
change and sustainability, with tips and ideas throughout to help your business to
thrive whilst keeping its impact on the environment low.

Carbon Cutting Essex App Download
Essex County Council has officially launched its new Carbon Cutting Essex App. The app is free to download and will enable residents across the county to track their carbon footprint and discover actions, big and small, which they can take to reduce it through their daily life.

Local Climate Engagement Programme
In 2022, Essex County Council successfully applied to become part of the Local Climate Engagement Programme, working with Involve. It was one of only five local authorities to be selected from a pool of 75 applicants. The project aims to help develop strategies for greater depth of public participation in the Climate Focus Area (CFA) project.

Love Essex
The Essex Waste Partnership and the Cleaner Essex group aim to inspire Essex residents to reduce their waste. The Love Essex campaigns support residents to avoid waste by opting for reusable items in place of single-use products. The reuse of items by purchasing or donating preloved items is also encouraged. The recycling of items through kerbside collections is championed. Items should only be thrown away if they cannot be passed on or recycled.
