The Essex Association of Local Councils produces regular e-bulletins that provide valuable updates on local government issues, events, and initiatives that affect Parish and Town Councils in Essex. Our bulletins cover a range of topics, including news, guidance, events, and more.

To receive our e-bulletins straight to your inbox, simply sign up for free by clicking below. You can choose which types of bulletins you want to receive, including our main newsletter, job vacancies and police, fire and crime updates. As a Member Clerk or a Chair to the Council, you will automatically be subscribed to these, however anyone can sign up, and we do advise if you are a Councillor, to sign up separately so you receive all of the most up to date information.

  • 9th June – Essex County Council has achieved a top rating for efforts to cut emissions and strengthen climate resilience. Essex Association of Local Councils supports national awards for parish and town councils.
  • 16th June -Local Councils Explained has been fully revised. Public rights of way and volunteering in Essex.
  • 30th June –  The 2025 edition of the Practitioners Guide contains a new Assertion 10 covering digital and data compliance.
  • 7th July – Southend tribute to seven-year-old girl, Active Essex launched the Find Your Active campaign.
  • 14th July – Major changes are planned to councils across Greater Essex as part of the largest reorganisation of local government in over 50 years.
  • 21st July – On the 10th July, MHCLG introduced into Parliament the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill.
  • 28th July – The National Joint Council for Local Government Services (NJC) has reached an agreement on rates of pay applicable from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026. We encourage employers to implement this pay award as soon as possible.
  • 1st September  – Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) is reminding parents and carers that it is against the law for them to allow their child to ride an e-scooter to school, or anywhere on the roads, pavements, cycle tracks or parks.
  • 15th September -Buckingham Palace Garden Party Award. This award recognises the long service (10 years +) and commitment by a Chair or mayor to their Local Community. 
  • 22nd September – The new Beaulieu Park railway station in Chelmsford is on track to open its doors to passengers for the first time next month. 
  • 29th September – Canewdon Parish Council has proudly been awarded the prestigious Silver Award as part of the Local Council Awards Scheme, recognising its outstanding commitment to governance, community engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • 13th October – EALC Training Bulletin, Tenancy Agreements and Policy Frameworks in Allotment Management.
  • 20th October – Protecting Commons, Greens and Open Spaces, online webinar delivered by Open Spaces Society. NALC Governance Elections

NALC portal

The NALC (National Association of Local Councils) has launched a new website that boasts a modern design focused on user accessibility and mobile optimisation. This updated site includes a comprehensive resource library and an improved search function for easier navigation.

How to Access the Website

To visit the new NALC website, simply go to www.nalc.gov.uk and you’ll be directed to the new site.

How to Create Your Account

If you are a councillor, clerk, or council staff member in membership with the EALC, follow these steps to create your account:

1. Visit the Login Page: Go to www.nalc.gov.uk/login.

2. Enter Your Details: Fill in your name, email address, and create a password. If you are using a generic email (e.g., clerk@essexparishcouncil.gov.uk), be sure to securely store your password for future use.

3. Verify Your Email: Check your email for a verification message from NALC. Click the link provided to activate your login permissions.

4. Set Your Contact Preferences: Choose your preferences, including whether you want to receive NALC’s news bulletins.

5. Select Your Association: Choose EALC from the county association list, and specify your council name and role in the Council.

6. Agree to Terms & Conditions: Review and agree to NALC’s Privacy Notice and Terms of Use.

Please note that this is a new access method, therfore the old log in details will not work. It is recommended that you do not share your new login details with anyone. Please encourage all council members to register individual accounts for enhanced security and access. Thank-you.

In the same circumstances as above, only certain resources and information is available to our Member Councils. This includes legal e-bulletins and member announcements. If again are one of our Members and need access to these, please reach out.

ealc county updates

Quarterly, the EALC publish regular County Updates in PDF form. This will include special updates including event guides, good news stories and new iniciatives from the EALC. It will also include details of our partner organisations which offer services to our Members in a variety of different areas.
