The Fire and Rescue Plan sets out the priorities for fire and rescue services in Essex and a series of strong, tangible commitments to how Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) will help keep our communities safe. The plan brings together the Service, partners and the public to build safe and secure communities and offer efficient and effective prevention, protection and response activity The activities in this plan set out a clear direction for development of the Service and how, by working closer together with other emergency services and wider partners, ECFRS can deliver a better service while being closer to the communities we serve.

Building safety Advice

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is committed to providing advice and information about fire safety issues and legislation across Essex. Rural Fire Safety

Farms are particularly vulnerable to fires and arson due to their isolated location, open boundaries, readily ignitable hay and straw stacks which makes them easy targets. The ECFRS are here, to help you reduce the risk of farm fires. Click below for more information, including how to book a visit from an ECFRS Rural Engagement Officer to assess your land.

Community Safety Advice

Many fires in the home are caused by a single moment of carelessness and could easily be prevented. It is important to be aware of possible fire hazards around the home and to take steps to protect you and your family from fire. If a fire does occur within the home, the survival will greatly depend on how people react and the preventative measures already in place. Do you have you any information about deliberate fires in your area?

Even small outdoor fires can be dangerous and they place additional stress on our limited resources – dealing with a nuisance fire affects our ability to respond to more serious incidents like house fires or road traffic collisions.

To help ECFRS prevent these fires from happening and to keep everyone who lives, works and travels in Essex safe, we have teamed up with the independent charity FireStoppers.   

If you have information regarding a deliberate fire, you can tell ECFRS what you know, 100% anonymously.

Each of the ECRFS experienced Education Officers works hard to teach children how they can prevent fires at home. They also teach children about the importance of home security, consequences of committing arson or making hoax calls, crime prevention, cyber safety, road safety, knife crime, gang awareness, hate crime and healthy relationships.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) is looking for volunteers who can join the team and help spread vital safety messaging to their communities.

The Service has a number of opportunities people can get involved with, from talking to Essex residents about home fire safety to volunteering at the museum.
